Mm Links March 2014 Week 1
It is a privilege to be back as King John II, King John was never my favourite King but maybe as John II I can make amends for my predecessor’s crimes re Marion, Robin, Nottingham etc ! I will be relying heavily on Gen2 to help me with all the technicalities and so much gratitude to him for all the work he does every week for us.
First I wanted to send out a hello to the Ontices. They know where my name Rockfordill comes from – just south of them! Every time I drove from Illinois to the East coast I would invariably go through Detroit into Ontario province and out again at Niagara or the Thousand Islands bridge. This had the great advantage of quieter roads, a higher speed limit, by-passing the great Cleveland conurbation and most importantly of all I could get Cadbury’s chocolate (I never did get used to Hersheys) and McVitie’s chocolate biscuits! So good luck this month Mr & Mrs O.
A quick bio summary from my two previous appearances as setter. I was born in London (before the war – just) my mother was English and my father a Kiwi. He was an artist, a naturalist and great country lover. So I grew up playing rugby of course, bird watching, hiking around England’s green and pleasant land, stamp collecting (well we all did in those days) and archery and became a great lover of western art Remington, Wyeth, Russell etc. I had the privilege of going to a London Grammar school (Marylebone Grammar) where I learned to love languages, especially the classics. But for all that I became an accountant! After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (by the skin of my teeth) I emigrated to South Africa and from thence to Rockford, Illinois where I spent the next 25 years living and working in the MidWest. More details next week.
