Mm Links Results May 2014 Week 4
14 Answers
This week's MM Links game has now closed and I can reveal that 'King Cliffyg' was looking for the following links:-
FINAL ANSWER
BANK NOTE
BIRTHDAY SUIT
BOY SCOUT
As 'King Cliffyg' stated, ALL the answers were hidden within his introduction along with a few additional hints.
Furthermore, I used all four answers as the first word of each of four sentences in my Friday evening 'Shrubbery' post.
Here is what you should have spotted:
"Good quiz masters do not rush you they give you time to think and even change your mind." - was supposed to suggest 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?' and the catch-phrase 'Final Answer'. It was hidden in the following sentence "Don’t rush of_F IN A L_ast-ditch"
The next sentence, ("Look within and you will find every answer but it's NOT E_asy.") read like a cryptic crossword clue gave you 'NOTE'.
Later, he gave you "It was my birthday yesterday (66) and granddaughter arrived before I had the chance to get dressed. " which should have suggested BIRTHDAY SUIT with the SUIT being hidden in ". . . I am best SUIT_ed to . . ."
Finally, SCOUT was hidden in "I did not wish to leave a di_SCO UT_terly exhausted . . ."
Despite all that, most of you just went with gut instinct as you usually do (I told him you would).
Points-wise, we ended up with an average week.

No best answer has yet been selected by gen2. Once a best answer has been selected, it will be shown here.
For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.GrannyDi was first to strike it lucky with her BIRTDAY SUIT closely followed by Tearinghair, Christiana and kawakiri all for 2 points.
Tearinghair also found the BOY SCOUT for a further 2 points.
It was 50 minutes into the game before Elspeth discovered the FINAL ANSWER (2 points) - except it wasn't - That would have to wait a further 8 hours until Middlestump came along and solved most of it, collecting 'Birthday Suit' and 'Boy Scout' (1 point each) along with BANK NOTE (2 points) and becoming a triple-hitter in the process.
I therefore declare
***** HOTSHOT FOR *****
***** THIS WEEK IS *****
***** MIDDLESTUMP ******
*** CONGRATULATIONS ***
In summary, This week's point scorers were:
4 middlestump
4 tearinghair
2 Christiana
2 Elspeth
2 grannydi
2 kawakiri
2 pixie373
1 Brenden
1 jobjockey
1 kettledrum
1 Onty (Mr O)
1 owllady
1 Strix
1 twix123
Which, when added to the leaderboard shows that Tearinghair has increased her lead and is 3 points ahead of Middlestump with one week still to go.
10 tearinghair
7 middlestump
5 Elspeth
4 beejay1124
4 grannydi
4 kettledrum
4 rockfordill
3 baza
3 Brenden
3 owllady
3 Strix
11 on 2 points
11 on 1 point
With the leading six all having been setters before, it seems unlikely that a novice setter will rise into the frame next weekend.
So, thinking ahead for a June setter, there have been two suggestions:-
1) That I set the links for the final month.
2) That the Hewats (SHAZZA and CHRIS) be invited to set them. The thinking behind that is that they have been regular players over a long period but they always play on a Saturday afternoon which suggest they may be in Canada or The States and therefore never get a chance of early bonus points. If that is true, then what do Shazza and Chris think about that proposal?
Next Saturday, 'King Cliffyg' will be back to challenge you for a final time. I have no idea yet what he has in store for you.
Until next week then:
Same time (9am)
Same place (Q&P)
Happy Linking

Thanks CliffyG, I enjoyed that extra challenge/hint, and did my best to find the clues within, though only successful with one. Should have spent more time on it, I guess. It was a trip down memory lane for me, as several of the early setters, myself included, gave clues and red herrings within the preamble.
Thank you Gen2 as well for organising it all with your usual efficiency.

I have to admit that I've never been the hotshot before so it came as quite a surprise. I was late on parade again owing to croquet commitments so I was under no pressure to find two pointers as I assumed they'd all be gone. So I did follow King Cliffy's advice and searched for the answers, but I couldn't find FINAL. Thanks Cliffy and Gen2 and thank you too to Tearinghair and Christiana.
The Hewats would be only too happy to set the links but if next month is to be the last I'm afraid we will not be around. We are away for almost the whole of June, on a cruise and then visiting family in the South. You would have had a good competition asking folk to guess where we live! We actually live north of the border (in separation Referendum land!) but are always busy doing chores until after midday hence our usual late submissions! We also must have missed any discussion on what appears to be the demise of the game. If it should survive I'm sure we could set some links for either July or August. Contact can be made via [email protected] If this really is curtains, our thanks to all setters who have given us so much grey cell testing over the years. We are obviously not up to scratch with King Cliffy's thinking though!! But it's been a blast. Thank you all, Chris and Shazza.
Sorry Chris, I am stepping down from overseeing this game as from the end of June. I have done it now for over 3 years. If nobody else takes over (which seems unlikely but not impossible), the MM Links game will close at the end of June.
There will still be the KM Game to challenge you each weekend.
Enjoy your cruise.
