Wideboy, apart from notch/inset, the verb 'indent' also means to order...as in "We had to indent for a new filing-cabimet last week." For some reason - according to Chambers Dictionary - such orders refer especially to ordering from abroad.
Quizmonster - good but a bit archaic and obscure, but that the Times for you!
