Can't believe I am typing this - but want to let you know that I am throwing away my battery operated fly zappers.

I loathe and detest the "things" (flies) but when I use the zappers the flies appear to be in a lot of distress. when you stop the battery they come alive for a bit then you zap them again and this is repeated until they finally die. I do think this is cruel so am going to use an ordinary zapper (plastic thingmajig) - at least they die immediately.

Yes Tony it did upset me when their wings lit up as in fire - it is awful and like the old saying "I wouldn't wish it on anybody or thing".

Off to bed now as I am in the throes of a nauseous vertigo attack. Gnight all.
I use a thing that gives off a strong smell of citronella or something. It seems to kill them or send them away anyway.
I hope you feel better in the morning, JennyJoan.
Hope you get a decent night JJ and feel better soon.

If I keep windows open on a sunny day I could kill 4-5 a day. Yes my home is spotless - please. Think they fancy me.
Hi JJ,
You can spend lots of hard earned cash on fancy gadgets to terminate flies that enter your home but its fairly easy to make a home made fly trap from items you may have laying around the house.

Take a 2 litre plastic drinks bottle, cut the top off to form a funnel shape.
Drill a hole in the cap approx 1/4 inch diameter.
Put some bait in the base of the bottle to attract the flies (up to you, you don't need much).
Place the funnel cap facing down in the bottle, the put some tape around the top to hold it in place.
The flies can get in but can't get out and will die, but at least they die with a full stomach.

thanks chippy for that lengthy wee post but really couldn't be bothered to go to all that trouble.

just out from some hardware stores to see if if they have the plastic one but no. I did buy some from ebay but were too floppy so flies got away. I am looking for a hardish one.
