I finally have more information on this quiz, my friend decided to post it to me(!?). Not the whole quiz, just some that she already has the answers to. The quiz is called the 3 choirs quiz. 1/4 of the answers are male singers, 1/4 female singers, 1/4 birds and 1/4 are hymns. Each section the answers have to be in alphabetical order. So.....
1. First man with religious belief (4,5) Adam Faith
2. So all join without me as a subject - new order (2,6) Al Jolson
3. Drunken Sandy embraces Bill (4,8) Andy Williams
4. Wandering tribe on a trip (8) Baritone
5. Deep sea fish (4) Bass
6. Larry Hills is upset otherwise (4,5) Bing Crosby (before anyone says, no I don't get that one either, maybe she got that one wrong?)
7. He can give me a cod (7)????
8. Scour a new arrangement (6) Caruso
Those are the ones she has given me. Apparently the one she can't get is keeping her awake at night, so any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
so the "He can give me a cod" one isn't necessarily a male singer -
it could be a female singer, bird or hymn as well ?
6 Bing Crosby has 4,6 letters and the clue asks for 4,5. Which is right
I am struggling to get BING CROSBY from the "Larry Hills is upset otherwise " clue
All apart from 6 and 7 seem very straightforward- double meanings or pretty obvious anagrams.
Harry Lillis (anag Larry Hill is) is Bing's given name).
Caedmon? (minstrel of Whitby Abbey - could be an anagram of 'me a cod' + an 'n' that's been mistakenly left out of the clue?)
Thanks prof. Your amended version of the clue means Bing Crosby is right
I thought Caedman was apote but if he is a minstrel then it looks good. I always thought teh clue looked fishy. It seems like an error as the same clue has been posted by someone else too
^ a poet not apote
I meant Cædmon not Caedman
He played the harp and sang, but you're right fiction-factory, he was a 'poet' (I think the job description was a bit looser back then).
The mistake with the answer length for 'Bing...' suggests there could be other errors in the clues i suppose (and sorry, but I just have to say Whitby cod is the best there is, so if it isn't Caedmon it should be}

Thanks, I think Caedmon may well be right, I will pass that on to my friend. And thank you Professor Maisie for explaining the Bing Crosby clue to me.
I think it is Caedmon, an anagram of "me a cod" but a mistake has been made!
Yes, give men a cod would have worked. Unless setter is a man
The Paul SImon musicl Capeman has also been suggested (I think the link was thought to be Cape Cod)
