21. Ducks and drakes used to bust the dam (8)
Everyone seems to be struggling with this! I'm thinking of tossing a coin to choose ricochet or bombings.
Has anyone else got a better idea as this is driving me nuts!!!!!!

Bombing meets the dambuster part of the clue but not the ducks and drakes but ricochet satisfies both (IMHO)

Calibax, the illustration given in the link hardly looks like the bombs are ricocheting, they are bouncing.

"ducks and drakes" is the name for the skimming of stones across the water, which gave Barnes Wallace the idea.

Mamya has contacted compilers before and has confirmed letter count or wording was wrongly entered at publication.

It would certainly make it easier if it was 8, 5.for Bouncing bombs. :-)

It's rare that this setter makes an error and over the time it has been out there has been no change to the copy on the site.
