When old Tom's will was read, he had left one third of his money to his son and one half to be equally divided between his three grandchildren. Of the remainder, half went to pay off debts of $1500, and the rest to charity. How much did his granddaughter inherit?

1500, I think
2/6 to his son, 3/6 for the grandchildren, and 1/6 for debts and charity. 1/6 is worth $3000 - 2 x $1500.
His granddaughter received 1/6 = $3000
1/3 to his son and 1/2 to the grandchildren leaves 1/6 remaining
1500 dollars = 1/2 of this
Therefore 1/6 of the estate = 3000
The estate = 18000
The grandchildren get half = 9000
Each grandchild gets 1/3 of this = 3000

Answer = 3000
Debts 1500 and same to charity (half to debts). So isn't 2/3 worth £6000?
Oh doh.
