Why do some insist of saying jag when they mean jab? They don't use a rambo knife to administer the vaccine.

Question Author
not like them to be contrary barry! PMSL!
It's a Scottish pronunciation..' A wee jag "
Chambers Dictionary

"jag1 noun 1 a sharp projection. 2 Scots an injection; an inoculation. verb (jagged , jagging) 1 to prick, sting or pierce something or someone. 2 to cut unevenly. 3 to make indentations in something.
ETYMOLOGY: 14c.

jag2 noun, slang 1 a bout of heavy drinking or drug-taking. 2 a bout of indulgence in anything.
ETYMOLOGY: 20c."

Yip, always a jag up here in the frozen north. Has nobody ever heard of jaggy nettles?

you mean like an X-Type alavahalf?
Question Author
neelds are pointy maggie, do they have serrated edges?
jaggy, not jagged, TTT
TTT agree, but Scots also say jag or jaggy to mean sting - and that's usually what a needle does?
I don't know but I wish they'd stop.....I mean, it's the thin end of the wedge, isn't it? Who knows where we will end up if people start saying something perfectly understandable but different to describe something which itself is perfectly understandable...

We'll end up in a world where people forumulate their own rhyming- and nonsense- slang to amuse themselves and confound other people.
If someone's had a jab, have they been prodded or punched?

Question Author
Bonnet de douche JTT!
I really don't care what they call it - jag or jab. What I do wish is that they would stop showing people being injected. I have a phobia about needles and the news constantly shows people receiving the vaccine. Makes me shudder and almost put me off going for my "jag".
From the same dictionary,

"jaggy adj (jaggier, jaggiest) 1 having rough, untidy or uneven edges. 2 Scots prickly or stinging • jaggy nettles."

Question Author
isn't there confusion with owners of Jaguar cars?
It's blerdy annoying when people don't use the proper words, or use slang or abbreviations, don't you agree, TTT?
///isn't there confusion with owners of Jaguar cars? ///

Only if you want to labour the point and create one, I suppose...
"isn't there confusion with owners of Jaguar cars?"

Yes but it's only those owners who appear to be confused.
