Further to Bobbinwales posting yesterday to complete the calculation: - 12y + x = 2.25 x (12x + y) multiply by 100 to eliminate the decimal point 1200y + 100x = 225 x (12x + y) 1200y + 100x = 2700x + 225y 975y = 2600x The only sensible value for x is 3 and y is 8 So he wanted 3' 8" of ribbon but purchased 8' 3" a difference of 4' 7"

Further to Bobbinwales posting yesterday to complete the calculation:-
12y + x = 2.25 x (12x + y)
multiply by 100 to eliminate the decimal point
1200y + 100x = 225 x (12x + y)
1200y + 100x = 2700x + 225y
975y = 2600x
The only sensible value for x is 3 and y is 8
So he wanted 3' 8" of ribbon but purchased 8' 3" a difference of 4' 7"
12y + x = 2.25 x (12x + y)
multiply by 100 to eliminate the decimal point
1200y + 100x = 225 x (12x + y)
