TV quiz channel

One of the TV quiz channels has been running the same puzzle for days. Its Ninety divided by 5 multiplied by 10 minus 12. Its not 168 or 117. Does anyone know the answer?

Can't see why this is not 168 unless 5 x 10 is in parenthesis (brackets) becasue the standard order of operations for calculations involving more than one arithmetic operation is:

Rule 1: Perform any calculations inside parentheses.

Doesn't seem to apply here.

Rule 2: Perform all multiplications and divisions working from left to right.

90/5 = 18 x 10 = 180

Rule 3: Perform all additions and subtractions working from left to right.

180 - 12 = 168

It's very badly phrased, like most questions on these sort of channels!

It could also be:

(90 / (5x10))-12 = -10.2

(90/5) x (10-12) = -36

90 / ((5x10)-12) = 2.37

90 / ((5 x (10-12)) = -9

Dont' forget to use roman numerals in the words. M D V and I.

Also you state ninety and 5, one written and one numeral, what was on the TV, all written or all numerals?

Even using these it is difficult to get the right answer. Sometimes the answer is given at the end then try to work it out so that you know how they did it, ready for the next one.
