It could be Fife, the Royal Palace there had a tennis court from the 1500's
I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but Falkland Palace is the home of the oldest royal tennis court - built 1539 - still in use.
Is this a general knowledge quiz or cryptic?
I think you are looking for a town. Falkland is near Cupar in Fife.

Thanks for that. I think it could be Fife, I've found the info about Falkland Palace but it has to be a town. Think I'll go for Fife. Cheers for your answers...
Fife is a county - not a town or city .
From the question it says town home of so I would think that the answer must be Falkland
