Tel GK/Herculis Links Game : December Week 1

Yes it's the beginning of another month, and time to launch the Herculis Link Game for the month of December.

As all of you regulars are aware, ShamrockBlue is unable to continue in his administrative role owing to other commitments, so I have been asked to launch the thread to ensure that our not so little weekly diversion continues unabated!

For any newcomers to the game, (and all are most welcome), the object is to predict Monday's Herculis Linkwords in the Daily Telegraph, with the shaded solutions from Saturday's crossword.

Crofter will then award points for each correct guess this weekend, and also for the next four weekends, to determine the overall champion for the month. Let's hope that the beads on his abacus are well greased and in good working order!

After several weeks attempting to predict the correct links, it is perhaps a little surprising that nobody has yet managed to forecast all four �. is that about to be accomplished this week?? A permanent place in the AB annals and undoubted bragging rights surely await the first person to achieve this enviable distinction!!

If anyone is ready with this week's LINKS before I manage to fall out of bed on Saturday morning, I would be grateful if they could be posted here �. so let battle commence!

Hi, Crofter,

Regarding "Journal Bearing" this is a plain (as opposed to ball or roller) bearing. But, I'm more familiar with "Bearing Journal" i.e. the highly polished part of the shaft within the bearing.

So, in the unlikely event of something similar, is the order of the pair words important?

Several points have been raised in the last few postings.

First is the order of the words "Journal Bearing" or "Bearing Journal". I would treat these as equivalent.
Similarly, the Plural Rule would treat COP and COPS as equivalent.
Experience in the recent past has shown that in no case has a 3-lettered Link Word appeared, so phrases like "Orbit GUM" or "Bearing UP" are not likely to pick up any points!
As for beginner's luck, that has been answered by Phil7 (as in "Lucky 7"). He was a few seconds off scoring 3 points! When the dice are rolling in your favour, all I can say is "Phil your boots"!

Hi Yelsel, yes it was my good fortune to be awarded top spot in the November Challenge, but I am now back in a more accustomed position with zero points for December!

It really was very generous of you to offer the book token as a prize for the winner, but the pleasure of taking part and the added bonus of winning was sufficient reward in itself.

crofter - thanks for your last posting. As I am unfamiliar with the original Herculis game it is good to have your words of guidance which I shall take on board for next week. I shall probably never score a point now, especially as Phil7 snaffled all the beginner's luck (well done P7!) but, as for what more do I want? - well, I'm ready for my close-up Mr de Mille!!! lol :O)
