Tel GK/Herculis Links Game : December Week 2

Yes it's already week 2 of the December links game, where it is hoped (and expected) that entries will achieve higher scores than those notched up in week 1, when the recondite pairing "Journal Bearing" had us thinking that perhaps Michael Mepham was having a mischievous chuckle at our expense! �. Surely not, but can we be certain??
Top scorers last week were "brizzer", "Phil7" and "twosearch" with two correct hits each; they were joined on two points by "crofter", "gen2" and "yelsel" who all scored bonus points for being the first entrants to submit correct guesses on one of the pairings.
For newcomers to our weekly addiction, (and they are most welcome), the object of the game is to predict Monday's Herculis link words (from The Daily Telegraph) with Saturday's link words which will be given at the end of this thread.
Rules of the game and details of how points are awarded are fully explained in the riddles section and can be reached by clicking on the link below.
As usual, our resident statistician "crofter" will slave tirelessly away in his counting house once Monday's link words are known, to determine who the high flyers are and then provide his expert analysis!
Saturday's link words need to be posted on this thread before entries can be accepted, so if any early riser has them available before I return from the newsagents with my paper, I would be grateful if they could be posted below.

It's Sunday evening and time to take stock! Time is running out and we are still wating for the entries of some of our better players! Where are you - addict, cliffyg, millylmolly, twosearch ?
Some of our sharpest players are yet to score in this the second month - notably jan1956, Magyar, sarumite all of whom scored a handsome 6 points last month! Are they daunted? - Not they! With additional resolve they engage once more with the mighty Herculis!
Worthy of special mention is keyboardix who has scored in every one of the five weeks that this contest has run . Will this unbeaten run continue with the latest set of link words! We can but wait!
Under VANITY, we came up with only nine different options. Can I deduce that we do not count "Vanity" as one of our colletive faults (unless we mean intellectual vanity when someone dares to challenge one of our solutions on AB!). The leading suggestion by a country mile was Fair/Fayre(equivalents) with CASE a poor
second.
We were not so restrained under VALVE and two dozen different valves appeared. We know that MM (the setter) has used JOURNAL BEARING in the recent past, so his engineering knowledge must be fairly extensive! Nevertheless I feel fairly confident that we have covered most bases here. Favourite here was SAFETY Valve but others included were bicuspid and mitral valves. We even have our own valve expert in Ramjet who proposed thermionic valve! So all I say is "MM do your worst - we're ready for you!"

Under DUTCH the two favourites that stood out were Courage and Double (joint favourites with 12 votes each). It is fitting that these two should come together, since the more Dutch Courage I indulge in - the more I speak Double Dutch.

Hi Crofter The Elvis Legend is one of those cultural differences as it's quite 'big-time' in North America with Elvis Legend parties, Elvis Legend disc jockies and as you will see from the following Elvis Legend books.

We're not fans ourselves, well maybe of a couple of songs, and we didn't realize that the rest of the world weren't 'into' this legend. However if the novelty prize is a week in Barbados we'll gladly accept.

It will be accepted here that Elvis is a legend, but the link backwards from legend to Elvis would not be obvious to me (at least).

I'm afraid it is "terminal"! A permanent fault on the hard-drive. It's still under guarantee so "WHO CARES?" The only downside is that I will be out of touch in the evenings for a while. Anyway, I have made a round trip of 20 miles to sit at this keyboard, so let's get going! Excuse the relative brevity!
Vanity - Thy name is PRESS. Hard lines to the few who opted for PUBLISHING (not close enough). The other link words were spotted first by the eagle-eyed Tenter (URBAN), the Spanish/Portugese(?) Christiana (ESCAPE) and our very own Aussie in the sun, seekeerz (TREAT). These three each receive one bonus point to add to their scores.
In fact, the points were difficult to come by and there are 0's everywhere on the scoresheet. The best score of the round came from Christiana (3 points) who nailed two link words and picked up her bonus point (see above). She is the STAR of the round. Well done!
Closely following (on two points) are Tenter and seekeerz (with their single early hits) together with homeresque and JRB (for two delayed hits). Sadly, keyboardix was stopped in his/her tracks going for a sixth scoring round!
How do we stand after two weeks? Well, since none of last weeks leaders (including crofter) was able to get back on the scoreboard, ***Christiana*** is the new leader (with 3 points) with no fewer than 12 ABers on 2 points! Apart from those mentioned this week and last, Arabesque and Grenmus are holding steady on the rails!
Bloodied but not beaten, we must concede this round to MM!
