I have gone drastically wrong somewhere ????? If 18 across is Milwaukee Depth [ says Google] then how can 12 down be EARTH and 11 across be DAWN ? pls kindly enlighten me, many tks.

I put the answer as 'earth' too Dee - I've never heard of a planet called 'world' - that's my Herculis entry in the bin this week!

many tks for help both of you and arabesque may I suggest ?---do the crossword in pencil first, then go over with a felt tip when its done, another good tip that I got from AB is patch over the words, its fiddly but it works---cut out a small square to fit over the mistake letter, but you have to use the same paper the crossword is printed on, then pritstick the back and paste over, truly you cant see the join, but it takes patience 'cos its not going to fit on your first attempt.

I don't know about you lot but did you not feel this was a travesty of an Herculis/ More akin to the Mirror or the Sun. Not exactly mind-stretching and using WORLD as a planet is unforgiveable!

Another way is to put the grid on a spreadsheet, black it all out then clear the squares; doesn't take long. I fill the shaded clues with very pale blue. It's easier than paper and prit!

You can zoom in to make it big and readable and mistakes are easily put right.

Another bonnus is that I can do the puzzle without touching the newspaper and my wife can have her go in pencil, then we compare.
