am i missing something here? 4d is "university located in the city of aligarh, uttar pradesh". i think i have got my acvrfoss clues right. which leaves me with -L-G-R-. which, oddly, would seem to be aligarh. also, there seems to be but one uni in this place. i'd welcoime elucidation!

lector, you just don't get it. the lady is being paid for her work. i get paid for mine. my boss expects me to get things right. this was an error -- assuming it WAS an error, and i await the solution -- that should have been picked up by the most cursory of double checks. whether it was KM's fault or the telegraph's, i know not. that said, i agree with all those who have praised yesterday's xword. it was, overall, excellent, thoroughly enjoyable and a real challenge.
