MM Links Solutions April 2007 [Week ]
28 Answers
This first week of the reign of King Cliff has gone remarkably smoothly and has produced some memorable results. I can now reveal the chosen Link Words of cliffyg and they are:
Easter CACTUS
BLUE Bonnet
Bunny BOILER
Holy SMOKE
There we have them and the tricky one in my opinion was finding a link for "Bonnet". The other links have a "hard edge" to them! Who would find empathy with such a devious setter (who can slip in a couple of cryptic clues into the preamble without being detected)!
Well, the Marmite Patrol struck gold yet again and all four link words were claimed within 12 minutes and I am shocked (but delighted) to be able to announce that the STAR of the Round was our very own paulineward! [an anagram of a real wind-up]
Some really inspired predictions appeared in the first postings, but it was not until 09.06 when the formidable brother and sister act, burgess & evsajo , appeared as Entrants #9 and #10 when the points began to be allocated. The link words to fall were BLUE BONNET and BUNNY BOILER (respectively).
[Hmmm I wonder if the new setter favours Alliteration?]
As you may well guess, it takes someone from Venus to think of this second link! Within two minutes, we had a trio of right "Bunny Boilers" in evsajo, slaney & paulineward! DO NOT mess with these Lay-Dees! Each receives one point for the "Hit" and a bonus point for being first (or within two minutes of the first)
Not only did Pauline log in at 09.08 with "Bunny Boiler", but she also scored with EASTER CACTUS (another two pointer!) bringing her total score to FOUR points (the best score of the Round). In fact, if her bonnet had been a different colour (blue instead of rouge), her score could have been even higher!

Yes Pauline I found that definition, too, but it's not a phrase in common use in these here parts. According to Steff is isn't in common use in Oz either.
Not to worry, just wait till it's our turn to set the questions :-) Don't hold your breath - it could be many moons from now.
Your win is well deserved so enjoy it.

I honestly had never heard the expression and when I saw the answers I had to look it up. I'm surprised it didn't catch on here - or in Oz - as most people saw the movie 'Fatal Attraction.
It would seem from what I read that the UK media latched on to it and have made use of it in different shows to describe people on the UK 'Big Brother' series.

But, Pauline don't worry about it at all. We're not. Enjoy your win. Rub Reg's nose in it and look forward to next week.

Congratulations Pauline and all you other points scorers. You may also congratulate me - not for the increasingly usual nil points but for being back on the internet after 8 days in the wilderness. I had to buy a new wireless router (very expensive here) and then, horror of horrors, configure it, which I succeeded in doing about half an hour ago - now totally shattered.
Am off to Israel on Wednesday for two weeks so will be disappearing again shortly. Good to be back though
