MM Links Solutions April 2007 [Week ]
28 Answers
This first week of the reign of King Cliff has gone remarkably smoothly and has produced some memorable results. I can now reveal the chosen Link Words of cliffyg and they are:
Easter CACTUS
BLUE Bonnet
Bunny BOILER
Holy SMOKE
There we have them and the tricky one in my opinion was finding a link for "Bonnet". The other links have a "hard edge" to them! Who would find empathy with such a devious setter (who can slip in a couple of cryptic clues into the preamble without being detected)!
Well, the Marmite Patrol struck gold yet again and all four link words were claimed within 12 minutes and I am shocked (but delighted) to be able to announce that the STAR of the Round was our very own paulineward! [an anagram of a real wind-up]
Some really inspired predictions appeared in the first postings, but it was not until 09.06 when the formidable brother and sister act, burgess & evsajo , appeared as Entrants #9 and #10 when the points began to be allocated. The link words to fall were BLUE BONNET and BUNNY BOILER (respectively).
[Hmmm I wonder if the new setter favours Alliteration?]
As you may well guess, it takes someone from Venus to think of this second link! Within two minutes, we had a trio of right "Bunny Boilers" in evsajo, slaney & paulineward! DO NOT mess with these Lay-Dees! Each receives one point for the "Hit" and a bonus point for being first (or within two minutes of the first)
Not only did Pauline log in at 09.08 with "Bunny Boiler", but she also scored with EASTER CACTUS (another two pointer!) bringing her total score to FOUR points (the best score of the Round). In fact, if her bonnet had been a different colour (blue instead of rouge), her score could have been even higher!

Others with two (delayed) Hits were bridgenut & Shaz
League Table (at this early stage)
4 Points paulineward
2 Points burgess, evsajo, slaney, JMR27, bridgenut & Shaz
Seven others picked up a single point in a difficult Round (including newcomer Jules001)
An excellent game cliffyg and a worthy STAR in paulineward!
So lets hear it for Pauline !!!!
[Just for the record Reg scored Zero Points. Just like taps they are ~ one HOT & one COLD]
This is crofter signing off for another week, in which Pauline found that her mind works the same way as the setter. I dont know if I should congratulate Pauline or commiserate with Cliff!
See you next week: Same time Same place

Well done pauline --- congratulations.
I wasn't on the same wavelength this week and scored a miserable zero. I did have bunny boiler originally , saw that it had already been used and changed it to rabbit instead. Never mind -- there are several more opportunities to come to get the measure of cliffyg. Again, thanks to crofter for his work on the old abacus.

Wow .. you kept threatening to do it Pauline, but we really didn't believe it would ever happen!! WELL DONE M'DEAR.
Maybe it was the cheese and pickled onions that we scoffed in the shrubbery t'other night that helped to set you up??
And poor old Reg, I do feel sorry for him ... having to put up with the inevitable gloating after being shut in the bathroom all weekend!!
I scored a big fat zero to make certain that Ont-ice retain my membership of the Freefall Club ... but who knows .. next week??? :0)

Well done Pauline. It's your turn to crow at home this week! Crow loud and long girl 'cos it's not often we ladies get the chance.
Sarumite. I think your idea of starting the Freefall Club was brilliant as it seems the Ont-ices are life members.
Congratulations to all the other winners.
Thanks cliffyg for some 'keepers.'
Big round of applause for Crofter for his excellent scorekeeping.
O-ice
PS. Since we never seem to link the words - is it because you lot 'think funny' or is it perhaps a 'cultural thing?' :-)

Bravo pauline, it had to happen sometime !!! and well done to all other successful entries - needless to say i'm not yet on cliffyg's wavelength [and probably won't be till the last week]
O-ices - I agree it's a cultural thing - I'd never heard of a Bunny Boiler and had to look it up [still not awfully much the wiser]
Oh well fingers crossed for later on with KM
seekeerz We, too, had to look up 'bunny boiler'. Noted that 'they' have a TV show called 'Steele Balls.' I think us colonials got a curve ball thrown at us - not that it would have made a darned bit of difference as we're panting for the boobie prize. I guess there are cultural differences just like moi with my Bing Cherries.
