Press your 'Alt' Key (don't let go)
Using your Number Pad press 253
Release 'Alt' Key

Laptop users, without a Number Pad, would use:
Fn + NumLK with MJKLUIO789 representing 0-9 to access all 256 characters including additional symbols, eg ♫♂Ω
Hope this helps! ☺ja

Howdy S - 'CP437' or 'Code Page 437 English' is the user-unfriendly name for the original DOS Character Set, both Normal and Extended (hidden). These are numbered from 0 to 255.
If you search Google for 'Code Page 437' you should find a table you can print and retain on your desk. I just photocopied mine from an old Dos Manual.

This is too big to print - you need A4 or smaller but you might like to Bookmark it for reference. Good Luck, ☻ja

Many thanks ja .. (sorry to hijack your thread Factfinder) .. whilst I can access symbols as shown for viz .. 1, 12, 20 and 21 etc etc as shown on chart, when I input 13 or 14 for musical notations I am given more smilies !!
Whilst this is not really of any importance, it is a little annoying. Cheers ☺ (S).

Hi S - Yes that must be very frustrating - I can only think that the factory setting is different, with an alternative Character Set installed. I suppose you could confirm by testing a friend's laptop. If you have the patience you could print out your own Character Table Alt 1, Alt 2 . . . . Alt 255 then see how many smilies show up, which presumably represent blanks. If the currency symbols are different then maybe it is intended for use in another country. Other than that I guess you could still cut and paste from your symbols table.
