Just a General Observation

Okay...I don't normally get involved in 'personal' affrays on this site with people, as often I see both points of view to a certain extent and do believe people are entitled to an opinion.

I have been busy today and could only get on line tonight...trying to catch up on some of the crosswords, I came on here to see if some of my 'trickier' clues were already answered..and I did find most of them..so thanks everyone.

I could not help but notice though some animosity and downright rudeness by some people...alright you can tell me to keep out of it, but why don't we all adhere to a few basic guidelines to keep this site as friendly and helpful as it's always been. I have met some great mentors and friends on this site.

If you think a question is inappropriate or asked 'too soon'...don't answer it!

If you think an answer is easy and obvious..remember it is ..ONLY if you know it!!!

Make allowances for people finding this site who may not have the level of intelligence as some others on here. (my daughter is Special Needs..and may have come across a site like this for an answer to something we would deem 'easy!') Do not presume.

If you do visit this site and can manage to read the basic guidelines to get the best help available, then try to follow them. i.e....give crossword, clue, and amount of letters. Any additional information for quizzes will help you get a quicker answer. Then try and remember to say 'thank you!'...or acknowledge the answer.

But please...let's get this site back on track..and try to keep it a nice place to visit. There are plenty of other places to go for a slanging match!

Sorry if I have overstepped the mark...but I had to have my say! Hope I haven't upset anybody.

As with AQ I was in bed and missed what had been said and posted earlier , but it must have been rude and uncalled for to provoke such a gentle person as yourself to post your 'observations'.

Having been off-line most of the day I missed the offending posts and would like to go back and read them so I can recognise the name(s) in future. From what Shaney said however I think I can guess one name!

Can you give me the link(s) or alternatively e-mail me if you don't wish to give those idiots more publicity.

Please don't let these people upset you the vast majority on AB are nice, friendly and considerate.

And its great to see how many people feel like you do and all in one posting. I am sure not everyone on here has realised what is happening and as you say some of it is being directed to individuals.
I for one am not very popular with them but my answer to that is to look even more times a day and answer even more if I can.
It does not spoil a quiz. If I am still working on it I dont look at the answers - its as simple as that.

I can only agree with everyone else's thought on this subject - it's such a shame to see certain people becoming the target of direct harassment when it's so unnecessary - if you don't want those answers, don't open the thread, but don't go there just to abuse the person asking - or in one particular case, harangue them because the closing date of the quiz is some time away!!
Not everyone likes to keep things on the go for long periods of time - I couldn't, I'd either lose the darn thing or the dogs would tear them up, so I get them finished.

Couldn't agree more Pauline. Thankfully everyone I have corresponded with to date has been the model of courtesy and the stalwarts of this site (such as yourself, shaneystar, sarumite, kayakamina, etc - sorry couldn't list all of you) uphold these principles.

Sadly the ne'er-do-wells and reprobates sneak into all aspects of life these days. It is very easy to be nasty and rude when you can hide behind an avatar and nobody can come back at you.

Good Morning all...just a flying visit as I am very busy on a Monday..but how refreshing to see so many in agreement!

Thanks for all taking the trouble to respond, as it confirms my belief that the majority on here are decent people. The people trying to spoil the camaraderie on here will not win!

I think there have been several uncalled for remarks lately from different people to other members on here...once or twice is bad enough, but when they are starting to upset the whole ethos of this site, we should speak up. .....Thankfully it's not happening all the time.

Anyway...let's move on and hopefully we can all contribute positively to this brilliant site. I know I have got so much pleasure out of it, as I know many of you have.

I am sorry but I agree with Figi. Pauline, you have stated that people are entitled to their opinion, and yet it is precisely when others do voice their opinion that you and others start complaining. Looking at the the thread mentioned, it is quite clear that at least a few of 'you' have had somebody banned because of your complaints. Why? If you do not like what others have a right to say, ignore them - it really is quite simple.

Catron, nobody objects to people expressing a view. What is upsetting is the manner in which these people express themselves, using unsuitable and sometimes threatening language.
So far as I know, people can only be banned for being abusive.

Well said Pauline, i agree with you , i have often had help on here and have helped others now and again. i am not that good at quizzes but i do like doing them and of course helping the charaties. its good fun and most people are friendly and helpful .all the best Jill x

Catron, ...I have agreed that everybody has a right to an opinion...I object to the way they express it sometimes. There is no need to be rude or offensive.

I also agree to a certain extent you have to ignore a lot of it..as I often do, but I do not think we should always just 'roll over' and take it.

I don't think calling people "utter dimwits and intellectually challenged "is an opinion .Neither is chasing round after people who ask questions just to insult and snipe at them an opinion. It's more of an obsession and it's not just in this category either.
I 'm afraid I had a snipe back !
If this person is so anti AB with "all its inane topics and contributions " then why are they contributing ?
Some sort of perverse ego trip if you ask me .
