Have completed all of puzzle bar one light. Have the word to write underneath and the 'appropriate' symbol. Just not sure of one letter in one answer. Can anyone who is doing this puzzle confirm or reject 'flite' as the answer to 40d. I have f?ite (5). Clue is Stick-in-the-mud? Time for a good shake-up.

Hi Christiana..I have something else..one of those clues which need to 3 a little 36 before entry.
Question Author
Hi Slaney, yes I thought it was one that needed to have the last part of 18 taken from it, but have searched and searched for the 'complete' word without success.
Happy to give it to you if you wish...one of the last ones to fall into place for me...
Question Author
Yes, I think you'd better. Now we have to get them in by Thursday and me having to post from Portugal, I don't often have the chance to actually enter. I usually finish around Friday, and don't always complete it anyway.
Fo(gram)ite...good luck!
The answer is foGRAMite
Question Author
Thanks very much. That was one of the alternatives I looked up, but it was not in my version of Chambers (The latest, 10th Edition!)
I managed to complete the grid but am unsure of all the misprints, though I am guessing hogshead. But I don't understand the part about the "extremities of three lines of squares". Can you give me a hint ?
Question Author
I have the misprints, which were on qu. 29, 32, 35, 48, 49, then 24, 27 and 43 down. Clue for the symbol : think of something that can come into equilibrium in a child's playground.

There are 8 errors, but some of them are in two intersecting clues, making 5 points in all
Thank you Christiana -- I had four of those, the only one that's missing is from the "Cape" clue. It's the only one that I couldn't understand because the answer is amine, but could not work out the misprint.
I also guessed at a balance (or seesaw) but none of the lines to make the shape are diagonally placed
Ulysses,
Start at the "h" from cheapener and work diagonally to the "e" in inertial and to the "o" in aurora.
Sorry Ulysses,
Should have added answer is amice ( type of cape ) not amine.
Question Author
Yes, Novalis just beat me to it, as I was about to press send. Agree Amice. The straight line starts at the E next to beginning of clue 29 to the 'c' of anice.
Question Author
Correction Amice, not anice.
Question Author
Ulysses, you will need all 8 to work out the word that goes underneath
Thank you both -- the penny has finally dropped and I can clearly see the shape now ! Sometimes it just needs a quick kick up the proverbial !
Seeing that the deadline is now Thursday, I printed ev at about ten past twelve Sunday (a.m. that is) to give myself a decent start!

I wonder if next week's will have a bit of leeway? Or should I make a dash down the A2 ... assuming I can finish it of course.

I'll be cooking Christmas dinner on Monday, but if I need time for ev, should I just leave it to Margaret?

Or should I get a life?

See how it gets to me? Christmas falls on the 25th this year doesn't it? That's Tuesday, I think.

..............and I have the word to go beneath as well !
MatyadaLover,

Get your priorities right!! EV to worked on on Tuesday as well if you've not finished it by then. ( I assume you will have done though!!! )
