Doesnt seem right to put the answer here in case anyone sees this who hasnt got it and wouldnt want to spoil it until they have tried so will give you a clue

first word a season with a colour - still time to ask later if that doesnt help

I think Ive got this bit smouse-it wasn't the 11 letters that were the problem, it was the 8, as lotion, mixture, etc, didn't fit, and I also thought the answer was more for colds & sore throats, not for hands! Can you give me the 8 letter word without giving away too much please?

thanks smouse- good clue. yes I know its easy when you know fordward, but I didn't see my grandparents very often, and when I did, I certainly didn't ask them what they put on their chapped hands! I certainly wasn't allowed in their medicine cabinet. I live in a world of modern medicine!
