MM Links Solutions January 2008 [Week 4]

Yesterday morning Queen Pauline posted her final set of four words. You then did your utmost to tune into her mind to guess what other words had been chosen to be matched with them.
I am now in a position to reveal that Queen Pauline chose the following word pairings:
COUNTRY folk
song THRUSH
watch TOWER
HARD boiled
Once again there were some popular choices amongst those and so there were even more scorers than last week. But did the points go to the ones that mattered? Were you one of them? More to the point, who is heir to the February throne?

Hard on her heels, entrant #2, sarumite, picked up 2 points for SONG THRUSH and once again Dinkypuzzled chose the same within two minutes for another 2 points (4 in total).
Entrant number 4, evsajo, then picked off HARD BOILED and along with Christiana, bridgenut and jimjools(JIM) (within the two minute rule) collected 2 points each.
The fourth pairing only held out until entrant No. 15, Jules001 clocked in at 9:05. She must have had the Archers on her mind when she elected to go with that everyday tale of COUNTRY FOLK for 2 points.
There were seven double hitters this week but only one was fast enough to pick up bonuses for each of them. So, as the only player to score 4 points this week, I declare Dinkypuzzled to be my '*** HOTSHOT OF THE WEEK ***'.
'*** WELL DONE ***' Dinkypuzzled.
One again we welcome a new player to this game - greengoddess. We hope you enjoy this bit of light-relief at the weekends and we look forward to seeing you again next Saturday for the start of a fresh month's challenge. Who knows? You could even get to be Queen for March.

League Table Final positions for January
========================================
Three of last week's leaders, Strix, ulysses100 & Magyar, failed to score anything this week, so were they overtaken? Yes, fordward's 2 points were just enough to creep ahead. Late challengers Alibobs & Dinkypuzzled unfortunately left it just too late.
The final January top positions are:
8 points: fordward
7 points: Strix & ulysses100
6 points: Magyar, Alibobs & Dinkypuzzled
'*** CONGRATULATIONS ***' to fordward, '*** CHAMPION FOR JANUARY 2008 ***'.
Cue the fanfares and the Coronation March.
And without more ado I now pronounce you
KING FORDWARD for a month.
One important administrative matter that I need to complete if this is to happen, is for me to establish email contact with fordward. Please contact me on:
[email protected]
Finally. A big '*** THANK YOU ***' to Pauline for an entertaining month of MM Links.
If all goes well, then we'll all be back at the same place next weekend. Be sure to be there. New players always welcome.
In the meantime, I, gen2, will continue as caretaker of this game until crofter is able to resume control.

Hmm, I think it's a fix. Pauline's mind is an open book, banned, of course but still open (to me at least). It's just that she did not finish up with the links she first thought of.
That's really a cunning plan.
But a good month, Pauline. Thanks gen2. And well done, fordward and Dinkypuzzled.
Here's to next month.

STRIX . . . ARE YOU STILL THERE?
Please email me at the above email address.
fordward has just emailed me declining the crown on the basis that he is not always available to post at launch time. I am applying the thumb screws (gently at first of course) to get him to change his mind since the launch can be posted by the scorer (as has been done by crofter in the past when the setter has been unable to).
I am hopeful that I will succeed in changing his mind but I need to be able to contact you, Strix if he still won't accept the honour.
You are currently the runner-up, Strix, on the basis of the 'Big Hitter' rule for deciding ties.
Please contact me.

I don't believe it ! Pipped at the post again ! As I have said before it seems that I am fated to be forever a bridesmaid. Nevertheless well done fordward, and I hope that you do pick up the baton and set February's challenges. Many thanks to pauline for the past month ; I had done so well up until the final lap. Thanks too to gen2 for his stirling work with the abacus, and to Strix as my running mate.
Well Pauline I managed one even thoughI didn't know it was Australia Day!!!!! Thank you for your words and thanks too to Gen2 for scoring and a message to Crofter to say I am thinking of him. Lastly well done Fordward, don't worry about setting the links, no one could be as useless at posting as me but as Alibobs said previously Gen2 is brilliant at sorting everything out. Just choose your words if you're not available to post them.
Oh nearly forgot it was Crofter who first helped me and he was brilliant too!!!!!

Well that was a blast ... I actually guessed one correctly, must have been a fluke!
Well done fordward for winning the race, and thanks for an entertaining month Pauline, even if I was in my customary lowly position. Thinks .. "my cunning plans just aren't working, must be more cunning".
Thanks for holding it together gen2, in the temporary absence of the mighty krophta!

How does one explain to those who ooze confidence that you want to be part ,but you dont want to be on the stage you want to stay in the back row?
Another time maybe(if i should be so lucky)
