My Fair Lady <the film starred Audrey Hepburn, although I believe Julie Andrews was in the stage show. I think this question is unnecessarily ambiguous. Also in 41 across surely it should be plaguey not plaguy? I think the quality of this crossword has dropped since Kate Mepham took over from Mike. any opinions? Rarely a week goes by without an error of some sort. Rant over!!

10 d asks for an English actress.
I think plaguy was easy to find from any Shakespeare source, but I can't figure out how I seem to have everything right in the corner but octet spoils it!! Tablet/trestle/leister/mosaic gold - so where have I gone wrong!!
46d Octad
whoops - meant treadle - that's what doesn't fit with octet, sorry.

Octad! Thanks so much. Just couldn't find anything other than octet.
It is octad, Marden.
The original Shakespearian quote is plaguy. So I think you are picking holes, bimbo!!
Question Author
tyrepillAudrey Hepburn, who was in My Fair Lady, is English.!!! Hence my aggravation. That shakespeare sure knows how to mess with the English language.
I dont recall Audrey Hepburn in "Mary Poppins"
Audrey Hepburn was born in Brussels
There's nothing ambiguous about the question at all. Julie Andrews was in the extremely successful Broadway version of "My Fair Lady", long before the film appeared.

Kate Mepham seems to specialise in simple answers coupled with complex or obscure clues. Once you realise this the GK on Saturdays becomes a proper challenge. Like everyone else she makes the odd mistake: in last week's Herculis she included part of the answer in the clue for 'forelock' and she put Enid Blyton back a hundred years, descibing her as a 'mid-19th century author'!
I think she does pretty well most of the time.
