Thank you both.I am sure you are right on all counts. I think 3d must be 'lectors' as it is the only word that fits those letters but I cannot see why. Can anyone?

Sorry where does the s come from for Lectors?

Lactone must have appeared while I was typing my response. It certainly fits but what does it mean? It does not seem to be in Chambers.

Lactone: One of a series of organic compounds, regarded as anhydrides of certain hydroxy acids. In general, they are colorless liquids, having a weak aromatic odor. They are so called because the typical lactone is derived from lactic acid.

Sorry that was a mistake on my part. It should be an s at the end.. The last letter comes from 'coddles' It could perhaps be coddled or coddler but cannot end with an e. I'll get a new pair of galsses!!!

Then Lectors would work, since Lector is a Latin Term for reader (togas) and is also a possible name of a university lecturer. Black Robes
