48 Answers
It is Week 5 of Sir Strix the Mongrel as I totter to the finish post, exhausted by you all guessing my links Despite that I am still determined to finish. Again last week far too many of you were on the ball. Poor crofter positively reeled under the onslaught and needed oven gloves to handle his sacred abacus. So let us now set forth for Week 5

More goes into maintaining this site than you all may realise. Previous setters of the Links will know exactly what I mean.
The Links setter may seem to move serenely over the water like the proverbial swan but, believe me, crofter is doing the manic paddling below the waterline! So whosoever is lucky enough to be this months champion, please do not hesitate or demur but take up the baton and run - crofter will be at your side and be your cicerone.
So my heartfelt thanks go to crofter and my apologies for parting him from a fiver last weekend!

I think it reasonable to say that a fair proportion of the people living on these islands are the result of hybridization. For example, the paternal side of my family comes from the depths of Cornwall and my maternal side from the very north of Scotland. Lady Strix (now returned from the hospitality of seekeerz, Mr seekeerz and the two Westies in the Land of Oz) too is a half-breed with her father coming from the Lowlands of Scotland and her mothers family originating from Kent where they first arrived with that illegitimate Norman bloke!
This mix means that our children are still half and half and remain sort of Scotlish! Now that our daughter is at the third oldest University in Britain it sort of reinforces that half of her breeding. It also means a lot of travel for us to see her will it be by plane or train? And when there what is the local fare and what to choose?
You will, probably, by now have worked out that I am talking of the land where it is not difficult, to misquote P.G. Wodehouse, to tell the difference between a native with a grievance and a ray of sunshine.
Yes, we are talking North of the Border, of Gods own country.
And the real reason for all this Scottishness ?
Tomorrow is St Andrews Day.
Scots wha hae

Needless to say, for the every day running of MM, I will follow the same rule as introduced by crofter on word length. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one or more of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter will declare my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. My fifth and final set of four words to have their links predicted will appear below at 9.00am. Good luck to you all.
