Does anyone feel like I do ?You spend ages on a charity quiz and get the hopefully the right answers to the difficult questions. Then find someone has posted the all the questions in a list on answerbank. To add insult to injury they then reply "Thanks very much I would never have worked that out ." .Fill in their answer form and send it off !

or how about give me a kick start
how does getting some answers give you a kick start to the rest

I agree that charities want the money and to them it doesn't really matter how answers are come by.
BUT the entrants who want to win some dosh and try really hard to get their own answers do care about the 'cheating'.
It can't be much fun to read all the clues , once, in say for example RT weekly xword, maybe solve a few then ask for and get the rest of the answers. The fun is to keep trying and then to enter knowing it's all your own work. It's not even a marvellous prize on offer.
smouse has the right idea to maybe help near the closing date but the answers are still left for all to see.
I've started being more selective about the quizzes I send away for, for example I know nothing about films or pop music, so I would probably need quite a lot of help for that so I don't get them now. I did get 2 copies of the Cinnamon film quiz but didn't manage to do it, but they still got my entry money, which is fine.I usually get 2 copies of each quiz, my friend doesn't even have a computer, we have crossword solving books with lists of categories, and we spend a lot of time on our quizzes before we feel we have to ask for help to finish.

Once the answer is in a book, for example, it is in the "public domain" too - for the world and his wife to find.

Maybe you think Google should be banned too?

I wonder what the AB Ed has to say on the subject.
A book! God forbid. Most of the lazy so-and-sos who use this site wouldn't know how to use a book. Why bother when you can just post the whole quiz here, one bit at a time, and someone else will look up the answer for you. Someone, earlier this week was requesting help with a Whatquiz question. Like I'm going to pay 12 to participate in the quiz, and just give them the answer! Dear oh dear....
rollo, you've lost the plot, darling.
Go and have a lie down and mull over why many of us don't like seeing their hard to find answers posted for all the lazy people to access. They never remove their questions once they've got the answers!
Really, it's the people who answer who are the spoil sports!

I tend to just do Ditloid quizzes and am amazed at the number of people who go to all the bother of posting a question here that asks for the answer to a simple common Ditloid when they could simply put it into Google and find the answers quicker that way.

I dont post any answers on here to quizzes Ive entered (although I do swap PMs with members on other quiz sites). And any answers I post are only ones where I think the information is on the web anyway. If Ive had to spend a lot of time using Google to work out an answer then Im not going to post that on the web if I can find it on the web than so can the person asking if they are prepared to think about it and do a bit of digging.

And people who cant be bothered to say thanks or dont reply when you post saying eg are you sure thats not a typo etc are noted and dont get any future help. Similarly those that only ever seem to take rather than give or post huge lists should be ignored.
The answers may all be in books or "findable" in Google.

The difference is that you can keep your answer to yourself once you have found it but once it is in AB it is available to anyone without any effort at all!

How rewarding.

Oddboddy your perspective from the quiz compilers point of view was very interesting. I hadn't thought of charities losing money as the answers are posted. The only possible way around it is to devise quizzes which involve pictures or Mensa shapes since people can answer cryptic clues without having bought the sheet. I personally am not too keen on these.
I think there is a difference between working out a clue with a friend and just sticking a question on a web site and waiting for someone else to give you the answer. The 1 for these quizzes are for the entertainment value ,if someone else does the quiz for you you'd be better off spending a 1 on a raffle ticket !
The other point about avoiding people who post lists seems a good idea. At least they would have to type each question individually and who knows they may get the answer as they do it. Alternatively give people clues rather than just the answer.
Just in case anyone thinks I trawl AB for answers and that's how I know the answers are there,I to look for posts about themes and then try a find where to buy the quiz !
Scouts You can find where to buy alot of the quizzes on here by looking on my website http://www.sitesaveronline.co.uk/quiz
at least that saves you trying to find the themes.
The question of just giving clues has been raised by various people many times on here and they just argue its an ANSWERbank some people ask for answers the day they get their quiz so they obviously have no intention of looking for themselves but it is worth pointing out that if they didnt receive answers all the time there wouldnt be any point in them asking so the people who give the answers out are just encouraging them really. Theres not really a solution.
Speaking as one who has just finished marking the Children In Need quiz, I have no qualms at all about questions being asked and answers given for quizzes. After all, we choose to advertise it on Answerbank to try to raise as much as possible for our respective charities, so who are we to quibble when questions are asked about it. In fact, it's good to see that people are interested enough in trying to complete them and I enjoy some of the banter when questions seem to puzzle many ABers. Maybe that makes me a bit of a sadist, but as far as I'm concened, carry on asking.

Thanks Oddboddy,I'm writing off for about 8 of them now, it is an excellent idea for a site.
Maygar is quite correct the number of quizzes you can sell via AB is far in excess of ones just left on the counter at the local shop.Especially with Oddboddys site listing them all.
My conclusion, after all your posts to my original query , is give a donation to charity, enjoy doing or not being able to do the quiz because for a pound they are such good entertainment .
I've have been so disheartened to see that the quiz I've worked hard to produce (and now in its 13th year) has had 64 questions answered on AnswerBank, 24 of them from a single 'serial' quiz entrant, who seems to be keener to tick off the number of quizzes entered rather than have any sense of achievement over the number of questions worked out.

The answer: next year I'm going to lift 100 clues from other people's quizzes, issue a list of answers with the quiz questions, and turn the whole thing into a handwriting competition - the neatest entry wins - no mental activity required on anyone's part!!
This post has been very interesting to follow and perhaps as a result of some of the postings the people concerned will have just a twinge of a guilty conscience and refrain from asking so many questions - although I doubt that will happen.
I never used to be interested in quizzes but after seeing some of them advertised as available on here I have sent away for some but for me it would spoil the fun of finding the answers if I asked on here for them.
With reference posted earlier about people who cannot read a book i would also add that there an awful lot of people who have no idea how google works or how to use it !! That's just my sixpennyworth !!
