Can anyone explain:
a line in merchant of venice naming Greek God
?P?L?O
which I presume is Apollo

activity in school can grow, initially, without a head
?E?C?I?G
which I presume is teaching

Apart from that I thought this week's was a good crossword - clever but not too difficult

Marco Polo was a merchant of Venice. therefore: A POL(L)O

Thanks. That's a bit too obscure.
TIN (can) + G(row) around EACH (a head)
teaching is TIN (can) and G(row) outside EACH (a head, i.e. per head)

Thanks. I repeat what I said about the other one.
Sorry, Dwil, I only answered it, didn't set it! A, then (L)ine in POLO seems reasonable, but not necessarily easy, to me. All the best

I wasn't referring to your answer but the setter.
