Which well known actor, a star of a long running film series, went to a public school which was co-founded by William Gladstone and is situated on the river that partially gives it its name?

"If his request was well known and someone nevertheless asked one of the questions on AB then would you answer it? As a clue the answer is one word, either Yes or No. "

Yes
Which of course neatly sums up your attitude, ie ‘To hell with the wishes of the quiz setter. What do they know? They only produced the quiz. I’ll do whatever I like because I know best. I’ve only ever been wrong once in my whole life and that was when I thought I’d made a mistake.’
Daily-Editor - yes I agree Frank23 did not ask for the answer, but as you and your colleagues keep repeating, this is a Q&A site, so why else did he post but to get the answer - it doesn't take a genius to work out why he posted does it?
Well, possibly Frank23 is more than happy to have the answer to his post. Daily-Editor is certainly smiling as all his points are valid. And poor pulse876 doesn't know which wauy to turn and is clutching at straws. And no doubt boysinblue68 - despite his many years of campaigning for answers to be banned on AnswerBank, is probably fuming because he has been proven to have used this same site for clues in the past. Takes all sorts.

Good luck Frank23 with the Great Brain Quiz. Thanks also for providing the platform for a great discussion.
Ah, another balanced view, this time from sir.prize. I take it you are also in the ‘to hell with the views of the quiz setter’ camp. Perhaps you can explain why it is reasonable to take such an attitude, because I’ve not heard anything that comes remotely close to a justification from anyone who has contributed to this thread.
pulse - Perhaps you can explain why it is unreasonable to take such an attitudeas yourself, because I’ve not heard anything from you that comes remotely close to a clarification that Bill Maclagan made such a request. You simply say you saw it in a GBQ newsletter. That may be so - but hardly circulated to be easily found. It also seems improbable that an approach was made to AnswerBank to monitor such questions re that quiz.

Subsequently it is more likely that boysinblue68 and yourself merely 'haunt' this site so you can pounce when anyone asks a question regarding GBQ and GFQ.

Your ridiculous claim and spewings of derision, along with that of bib68 will, hopefully, as continue to be ignored, as they have in the past. Give it rest - get something useful to do and let people do what they enjoy - ie using sites like AnswerBank to find help with answers they are seeking.

You have now become boring, uninteresting and a total annoyance.

Those are my last words to you.

/////I take it you are also in the ‘to hell with the views of the quiz setter’ camp./////

You obviously have a nasty habit of assuming something without justification.

I take it you are from the 'to hell with the views of other people, and belong to the quiz moaners' camp.'

Well that is your choice - but I am certain I know which group gets more satisfaction.

Clearly you along with the boysinblue character, are a pair of sad individuals, as you appear to devote your time campaigning so vehemently about something that is trivial.

In an endeavour to further your cause, why not be bold and send an email to AB Editor - see what kind of response you get.

Or are you afraid that a negative answer might hamper your purpose for living!
Sir.prize – your first post in this quiz suggested that you agreed with Daily-Editor and squarebear that the views of any quiz setter were irrelevant, ie anyone can ask anything in spite of what a quiz setter may request. I therefore asked you if you could justify why it is reasonable to ignore the quiz setter’s view. I note you have totally failed to provide any such justification. All you managed to write was a rather pathetic rant.

So have another go and this time please simply answer the question as posed. And note that the question is solely related to quizzes where the quiz setter has asked that questions not be asked, or not asked until just before the closing date etc. It has nothing whatsoever to do with any other quizzes where the quiz setter has said no such thing. To help you with your answer I’ll give you a hint – the fact that this is a Q & A site is totally irrelevant (so please do not include that in your answer) because the same would apply to any forum on which such questions were posed.

Daily-Editor – I note you also don’t seem to be able to answer the same simple question.
Daily-Editor I am slightly intrigued by your user name, it gives the impression that you are part of the editorial team, but I assume you are not (stand to be corrected) in respect of the topic discussed, I do not do the quiz in question and it is unfortunate that those that do have not brought up a clear link to the wishes of the compiler (that would cinch it surely), I do know however that many quizzes are becoming lotteries as people seek answers on sites such as here , some are very anti this and others seem to think the more entries the better, thats another point for debate I suppose. Lots of quizzes are downloads and pay on return so if not completed lots may not send in, good cause misses out? There are so many angles to this it seems impossible to please all. I only state what I see and do not have a definite view , floating voter I guess.
Daily-Editor and sir.prize - if you would kindly like to provide a postal address, I'll gladly send you a copy of a GBQ newsletter with the request from Bill. Unfortunately it will have to be snail mail, but it will be the proof you are looking for. The newsletters are only circulated to GBQ contestants so the people actually doing the quiz know the rules.

sir.prize - if you had read the whole thread you will see that your suggestion about a letter to the AB editor has already been mentioned. Perhaps you should equip yourself with the facts before beginning your tirade?

Daily-Editor - like pulse876, I'd be glad to hear your answer to his question, but then again I won't hold my breath as you seem incapable of justifying anything. Our posts are based on fact, not "ridiculous claim and spewings of derision" as you so eloquently put it.
boysinblue68 – I read your most recent comment with an element of hilarity. You have been relentlessly advocating that one should always adhere to the rules of a website. You make great effort to emphasise the alleged request from compiler of GBQ that would-be contestants do not ask questions on AnswerBank.

Then, in the next breath, you invite me to kindly provide a postal address so that you may send me a GBQ newsletter. Are you not aware of the suggestion in the AnswerBank Site Rules, ie: Do not post any personal information belonging to you or others including full name, address or phone number as it can easily be misused by others. One rule for one, one rule for another eh?

Clearly you are not aware how much humour your frivolities create on AnswerBank. Testiculating comes to mind ie Waving your arms around and talking b0ll0x.
mamyalyne. Thanks for your comment. You are actually right to assume that I am not a member of the editorial team on AnswerBank. Impressions can indeed be deceiving. My username is derived from my chosen career beyond Answerbank.
Thank you for confirming that.
Did you know an anagram of answerbank is "ban w..kers". I think that's what should be done here to the testiculators.
Why should someone be banned who happens to believe the views of quiz setters should be respected just because that person disagrees with you. All you’ve proved by such a statement is that when it comes to testiculating then you know no equals.
pulse - still on your soapbox then.
No soapbox. Just trying to get someone (perhaps you?) to explain why it is reasonable to ignore the wishes of the quiz setter. I’ve not yet seen anything that remotely resembles a reasonable justification from any of the contributors to this thread.
pulse - you just don't get it do you? The whole purpose of AnswerBank it to see answers. Surely that is justification enough why peopl euse this site. The so-called request you refer to is not common knowledge therefore how do you expect people to adhere to something they know nothing about?
pulse. Your campaigning companion boysinblue68 said earlier in the thread

the compiler of GBQ has asked that his questions/answers are not "given away" on here or any other Q&A site.Fortunately, more respectable sites have agreed to this and monitor these questions and remove them. Unfortunately, the administrators of AB refused to co-operate with this request.

Maybe AB has NOT been asked.
Of course I get it as you put it. I realise that people answering a question may not know about the quiz setters request. (Especially a question from the GBQ because invariably the person asking does not actually mention GBQ in their question because they know about the quiz setter’s request even if Daily-Editor is still in denial.) But it is often the case (as happened at the beginning of this thread before the question was answered) that someone posts about the quiz setter’s request. Nevertheless people continue to answer (as also happened in this thread). I would simply like anyone to provide a justification as to why it is reasonable for answers still to be given in those circumstances. And anyone (like you) who tries to hide behind the excuse that this is a Q&A site that says anyone can ask anything is manifestly not answering the question because that is not a justification. Why is it reasonable to ignore the wishes of the person who produced the quiz?
