Hi again Shrubbery gang and hopeful Linkers.

This is a wekend for celebration because 'Strix the Bibliophile', 'Strix the Silviculturist' and 'Strix the Horticulturist' will assume yet another persona to present his final selection of links from the Wolery. Will he set a devious selection or will he turn over a new leaf and be kind and gentle to you all?

This time it will be the climax to a challenging month that will determine both the League winner for March, and the setter for next month's links. Actually, getting a new link setter is the hardest part of this job and setting the links is nowhere near as difficult as some players seem to think, so if it turns out to be YOU, then there is no need to decline it since ample guidance will be available from Crofter (or myself). It just requires an hour or so of your time each week.

Some of you will no doubt celebrate for other reasons because after Sunday it will be 'Out with the Owl, and in with the New'. Or as Bob Dylan once said, "The Times They are a Changin' " ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKm65xLpwIM ).

Current leader jan1956 is closely pursued by miss meg, seekeerz, Grenmus, x-ray and wickedtongue. Who will it be? Will one of the chasing pack have a lucky strike? Who will it be? as Bob Dylan once said, the answer is "Blowin' in the Wind" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWvh4S3YWVo ).

Watch out for the launch of the MM Links Game at 8:45, 8:50, 8:55 tomorrow morning and then the links will appear at 9 am and the shrubbery will empty within a matter of minutes.

Of course, you should also look out for the exciting, high-scoring international version of this same game, which is called KM Links and kicks off at a much earlier hour but there is nothing to be gained in that game by playing early - the timing of your KM posting is deemed to be irrelevant. The more hits you are able to register, the more points you score. The regular organiser of KM Links comes all the way from Oz and goes by the name of “seekeerz” (aka Steff) who cheerfully does a sterling job week after week.

Now why not chance your arm at both Link Games?” They remain open for most of the weekend and all entries are scored and entered on to master scoreboards. This is the end of the month and so everyone hopefully will be trying their hardest to wfathom the workings of an owl's mind. Who will get the crown? Who will be the 'Hotshot of the week'?

Watch for tomorrow's posts and find out.

to be able to understand strix well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My dear Jan, of course you understand my mind - we are both on the side of the Angels........
.........now as to that Harpy, Pauline........
On the side of the Angels??....Just nearly choked on my wine!
Jan maybe...but...

Have you returned the hand yet?
Think he is up there with the angels pauline eithe rthat or away with the fairies!!
bet he still has the hand too
Hmm...away with the fairies sounds about right!
just us 2 Pauline,
I've got plenty of wine to go at are you back on the booze now???
Evening both (and Strix). Feeling very stressed this evening. I'm putting it down to six weeks without chocolate!
Only a few days to go, tearinghair, only a few days more.

Then, what will be the first type/make/brand you will go for?

Will it be a choccy bunny that loses its hearing? Will it be an Egg?

from elsewhere on the internet:

"So why is chocolate the most frequently 'given up' food or thing for lent? here's why.

Chocolate is what we relate to Easter, (hence the Easter eggs) and when we finish lent it's Easter... here comes the simple theory, we want to enjoy Easter eggs! I know. simple, right?

Now the explanation.

At a village hall in Dover, 200 people were invited to help test this theory. They were split into two groups and one group were asked to give up chocolate for lent, the other half were asked to eat however much chocolate they normally did.

The First group were told NOT TO EAT ANY CHOCOLATE AT ALL! (no cheating!) and they all came back on Easter Sunday to eat Easter eggs.

The second group mostly said that they found the Easter eggs OK but the first group all said that the eggs were the best they had tasted in a long time.

Bearing in mind that the eggs were identical, plain milk chocolate Easter eggs, do you think giving up chocolate is a coincidence or that it's the feeling of accomplishment or maybe just that people know that at the end of lent they have a valid reason to stuff their faces with chocolate?"

I am sure, tearinghair, you would never do something so inelegant as to "stuff your face" !! :-))
Well done tearinghair! I often give things up for Lent, but then I forget!
Not long to go....

I have an odd glass Jan...not much though at the moment. Hopefully that will improve!
only a week to go tearing hair
well done on giving it up not sure I could
last year my grandson gave up apples....... he never eats apples anyway
thought he was being ever so good!!!!!!!!!
I would have thrown a spanner in the works in that test Strix...I don't much care for chocolate!
But I am sure it's the fact that they were craving it that they enjoyed it more...a bit like.....alcohol!!...now what did you think I was going to say?
You know how, when you can't have something, it keeps appearing all the time?
(and it hasn't even had a useful side effect like losing weight! Why not?!!!)

Strix, it won't be chocolate bars, or even Easter eggs; I'll go straight for the dark chocolate Hobnobs!
If I do have any chocolate tearing hair...I go for Bournville. Prefer the dark stuff.
