This is “King” John (aka Rockfordill), newly crowned and ready to pick up the MM orb and sceptre and try my utmost to continue with the honoured role of Links setter. I am relieved that I have been elevated above “Prince” John – not my favourite character from history! Whilst talking of names, “Rockfordill” perhaps looks puzzling but it is simply the town in the Midwest of the USA, where I spent most of my working life -- find Chicago on an atlas and go about 90 miles NW and you will see the medium-large city of Rockford, Illinois.

My dad was an artist in New Zealand who emigrated to the UK in the 1930s, there not being much scope for artists in NZ during the depression era. He worked his passage on a freighter through the Panama Canal and on to the Port of London, where he got work with J Lyons (Chocolate) as an illustrator of box covers, etc. He didn’t find the work very fulfilling, but it paid some of the bills. Twenty some years later, I in turn emigrated to the USA settled, married, raised a family and lived in Rockford. At that time, it was a great place to work and raise a family, but perhaps not so hot now.

I don’t mean to carp about my father -- but he was a brilliant artist and instilled in me an undying love for bird watching, natural history and the arts. Although I have acquired several other interests, I still find bird watching a satisfying activity. I have a number of swift families which nest regularly in our eaves. They return as regular as clockwork on (or about) 3rd May and are great fun to watch.

Anyway, moving SWIFTLY on: as usual, for the every-day running of MM, I shall follow the usual rule on word length as introduced by crofter. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter will declare my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. My first set of four words to have their links predicted will appear below at 9.00am.
Hmmm....swift, words to do with speed?
carp ie fish
or just fish and birds?????
Swift and carp ~ what else have I missed?
could be fish and chirps?
Ah...Flying Fish!
Oh yes, kiwi and lions!!
. . . and I thought King John was going to be a Rockford Files fan!!
Good morning J, eagerly awaiting your links!
