Good Morning to you all! This is “King John” (aka rockfordill) with the continuing saga of the Life of a Young Classics Scholar. I suppose I had hoped for a spell in academia; taking A-levels in Latin and Greek followed by university, but having an artist father it was clear that the budget would not stretch that far. Preparing to earn my living, I took articles with a small London firm of Chartered Accountants and (after 5 or 6 years and much blood, sweat and tears) I became an FCA. I initially worked and practiced in Johannesburg, South Africa in the early 60’s (which was in those days a sparkling, prosperous city) but I surrendered it all for an American girl and a career running a factory in Rockford, Illinois, making machine spares for aircraft, etc.

I continued to develop my interest in bird watching, natural history and the Arts, but other interests had to be put on hold. I am referring to Rugby. In view of the fact that my old school, Marylebone Grammar, founded The Saracens Rugby Club – together with my having a Kiwi father, it is not surprising that I always preferred the oval ball!

Enough of this meandering! As for the every-day running of MM, I shall follow the usual rule on word length. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter will declare my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. My third set of four words to have their links predicted will appear below at 9.00am.

Whilst living in the Midwest of America, I continued bird watching (when I could) but also picked some great new sports. At that time, water skiing was my favourite new activity, but I also spent about three years skydiving and nothing can quite match that for excitement! I finally hung up my wings after a particular jump when my main parachute failed to open. This serious malfunction was entirely my fault! I had sewn on a rip cord mounting cone slightly off the straight. Any engineer would have known it wouldn’t work, but (as a classics scholar) I only had Icarus as a role model!

After 25 years in the USA and becoming a US citizen, raising a son and a daughter, my wife and I divorced. Consequently, I returned to the UK to marry an absolute English rose whom I had dated back in the 50’s, when I was a student accountant in London -- but that's another story! It was a triumph for Cupid and his little bow and arrow. That brings me in a somewhat contrived manner to my most favourite sport: Archery! In my youth, I was a young member of the Royal Toxophilite Society and Archery has brought me endless hours of immense enjoyment.
There's got to be a sports link coming up!!!
At first I thought rugby, but was that too obvious? Oval ball...could link in to cricket.
So sports or venues...hmm.
I won't guess the links anyway! :-))...Morning all...
One has to assume that the un-main parachute opened ~ or was Superman around?
Morning Pauliner! Just caught up on the Shrubbery! Is the bus in dry dock?
Oops, sorry! Just changed you into a ship!!
I need that ship Dustybun...it's pouring down here. ;-(
