And so we come full circle . As King John (aka Rockfordill) I now find myself retired in a small cottage in a quintessentially English village near Dorking high up on the Greensand ridge that runs across Mid-Surrey and is designated as an AONB. We have avbailable many local distractions - such as the second highest cricket ground in Surrey, an annual flower show and fete, as well as lecture groups, bridge groups, music groups and any other group you care to think of!
The children are all long flown the nest and scattered far and wide . One is married and living in the USA, another one mattied and in Australia , a third married and living in Greece and just one left in the UK. I cannot criticise their various exoduses overseas, I did exactly the same thing myself when I was a callow youth of twenty and satyed away for 25 years! The grass always seems greener elsewhere - especially when one is young! The analogy however is a poor one when comparing Surrey with some semi-arid regions abroad. Anyway, our combined families have produced five grandchildren so far, but it costs an arm and a leg to visit them!

Good morning J - I have caught up on your threads from wk 3 and wk 4 - all very interesting reading. We had a marvellous holiday and are now back to all the mundane jobs to catch up on - everything in the garden has gone wild and needs attention, so we are very busy. A nice surprise on our return was a premium bond win (£25) and first prize in the Independent Cryptic - a big dictionary/thesaurus - better than a smack in the eye!! Hoping to get a few points this weekend! R
My wife and I wrap ourselves up in village life and we are active on most committees, especially the Annual Flower Show and Fete. Life now follows a gentle rhythm. Mondays are taken up with our village cycling club; midweek usually finds me examining the accounts and auditing several local charities; and Thursdays are spent with the walking club. That leaves the weekend, which is devoted to solving the various crossword puzzles in the DT. I still enjoy occasional trips to London (as a Promenader) but feel "at home" when I return to the peace of the countryside , where I can gaze at the Milky Way, listen to the hooting of the owls, the prowling foxes and the tread-lightly deer picking their way through the undergrowth.
I can honestly say that it has been a privilege and an absolute pleasure to have served you as the Royal Links Setter over these last five Saturdays. I offer many, many thanks to Crofter for wisely steering me through the maze that faces the virgin setter. I can now copy and paste (which I never could before!) maybe I will create my own avatar next !? Whoever succeeds to the MM links throne - fear not for help will be at hand!

As always , for the every-day running of MM, I shall follow the usual rule on word length as introduced by Crofter. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00 pm on Sunday evening when crofter will declare my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM link games in the past. My final set of four words to have their links predicted should appear below at 9.00 am
