MM Links Solutions August 2010 [Week 1]

With a silent but deadly grace, owllady, has risen swiftly up the food chain to become the principal predator in MM Linkland. In her alter ego of The Lady Ursula, she set an elegant opening round aptly entitled “Strix-ly about Owls” in which she chose the link words:

TITHE Barn
LEGAL Eagle
Little PEOPLE
Box CLEVER!

Each one of these words to be linked appears in the preamble; nevertheless these choices indicate the workings of a shrewd mind! So much so that only 9 entrants were able to make it to the scoreboard. At least I learned how and why “Strix” is connected to an avatar depicting an owl!

It was fitting that Strix was the very first to strike with talons bared to bring TITHE BARN immediately into the game for TWO POINTS. This proved to be the most productive link with both slaney and Christiana claiming their “tax of one tenth of produce” (paid up in time for Two Points). How slaney missed the “little people” I’ll never know!

With the clock standing at 09.03, joto entered the fray as Entrant #16 to impress with LEGAL EAGLE shortly followed by Dustybun who decided to BOX CLEVER. Each picked up TWO POINTS ~ with no one to follow their initial leads until the game was about to close down. Having said that, LaneyB, kawakiri and gen2 each paid their “tenth taxes” (albeit a little late) to pick up One Point. I note that LaneyB resorted to the OE version of “Ye Olde Tythe Barne” (It’s an age thing) ~ but I still awarded her “eyne syngly poynte”.

With the game about to close, there appeared on the horizon a twice-crowned super ex-MM Champion in the form of (Crown) JOOLS to argue the case as a LEGAL EAGLE on behalf of the LITTLE PEOPLE for THREE POINTS! She stands head and shoulders above the rest of the field and has earned the coveted title of HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK.

The League Table after this first week is:

THREE POINTS: JOOLS
TWO POINTS: Christiana, Dustybun, joto, slaney & Strix
ONE POINT: gen2, kawakiri & LaneyB
Everyone else is joint tenth (that is they are TITHED)

With one week over, we need to congratulate The Lady Ursula for a successful initiation into the esteemed role as setter of the MM Links. I am looking forward to learning more about our new monarch.

Thanks Lady Ursula and crofter - I was inspired with Little People by the vist of my little grandson - so I will have to thank him too. Having now cleared the debris I'm now going to retire to the couch with a nice glass of something RED and recover from the visit. :-)))

I am pleased that an owl got the first strike! Though, I have to confess, when I saw the plethora of Dutch Barns in other's links I did wonder if I had missed a hit.

I look forward to the next week of the Lady Ursula's offerings.

p.s. to owllady - we have little owls and barn owls here and it is wonderful to wake in the night, when the sky is clear and the moon is high, and hear and occasionally see them.
