MM Links November 2010 [Week 2]

Dobry wszystkim rano!
[Only joking – Polish is not a language with which I am at all familiar]
Thank you for taking part in last week's links, but maybe they were a little too straightforward for you, so I'll try and make this week's challenge more interesting.
The scene for me moved from France to Dublin, where I found myself at University. How, I'm not entirely sure, since the Irish Entry System then (as now) did not rely on interviews, teachers’ references or personal statements, and I had applied for a science-based degree without any relevant Leaving Certificate Sciences among the eight subjects that I had taken. Perhaps, they put all the applications in a bag and played lucky dip? I prefer to think they used the time-honoured method of examining the entrails of a goat!

1.Never read Voltaire
2.Never attend Trinity College
3.Never ever read a science subject at Trinity College.
A useful roadmap for me there, and I was able to hit the jackpot (the Voltaire being provided by the then compulsory parallel Arts BA) as I ignored all three elements of the advice.
Even now, I get echoes of the excitement I first felt as a Junior Freshman walking past the statues of Goldsmith and Burke, through Front Gate and into Front Square. The fact that it was somehow forbidden fruit added an extra frisson.
Dublin then was not as it is today – they hadn't knocked down so many of the glorious Georgian buildings, and Temple Bar was just a rundown area. However, it was for me a place of liberation and gaiety, and I have so many good memories. Looking back, I should have got out more, spent less time in the library and more time down the pub. This sad imbalance was redressed decades later with the arrival on campus of Number 2 son! He more than made up for the earlier sobriety of his mother.

I may be a somewhat of a rule breaker, but I promise to follow the rules on word length introduced by crofter. Each of my chosen link words contains at least four letters and at most eight. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one or more of your attempts! Each of my selected words may go in front of or after my challenge word. The competition will officially close at 7.00pm on Sunday evening when crofter will declare my selected words, then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past.
My first set of words to be linked will appear below at 9.00am.
