I eventually qualified as a Dentist and did so well in my finals that I was given the opportunity to change to Medicine, but I decided to stay with my original qualifications. I began working in hospitals and then took up a long career in dental practice, which I gave up a few years ago and retired early. It’s a really stressful profession and so breaks are needed for R&R and, over the years, I had a few in some exotic locations.
I have developed various interests in wildlife, which have stayed with me throughout the years. I began with studying wild flowers in Grammar School with the help of my Biology master, before graduating to birds which held sway for many years. Eventually, the “botany bug” bit hard again, and this is now my main hobby, which keeps me busy leading walks all over East Anglia. A friend and I are starting a new venture by leading wild flower walks in Greece in the Spring. Our first trip to Greece this year had an enforced extra week because of that Icelandic volcano; but still it went well.
Earlier wildlife memories include going on safari in Tanzania and Kenya with wildebeest hurtling past our jeep and hordes of flamingos at Lake Naivasha. I also recall being aboard a three-masted schooner and taking an extended sail from Thailand back to Greece with spinner dolphins in the wake and my climbing up the mast and sitting out on the end of the cross-bar. I shall never forget walking on sandy beaches in the Seychelles and coming across a turtle nest exposed by a storm -- and seeing the largest fruit in the world called the “coco-de-mer”.

However, my most treasured memory was when I spent a month in Kruger National Park in South Africa doing a training course to qualify as a bush ranger. To have a hyena come within a few inches of your foot -- or a pride of lions saunter past you whilst you are perched on the tracker seat on the bonnet of the vehicle were the thrills of a lifetime. I would dearly love to return and repeat the experience. Nature is present everywhere you go and can be enjoyed every day. Sometimes I feel that there are just not enough hours in a day to fit everything in.
According to normal practice, for the everyday running of MM, I shall follow the usual rule on word length as introduced by crofter. Each of my pre-selected link words contains at least four letters and at most eight letters. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts! Each of my selected link words may go in front or behind my challenge word!

The competition will officially close on Sunday Evening at 7.00pm, when crofter will declare my pre-selected words and then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during every MM Link Games in the past. My third and final set of four words to have their links predicted should appear below at 9.00am. Remember this will be the last MM Links Game of 2010, so the results after Sunday’s game will determine the January setter for 2011.
