I know it's early to ask but now I've reached the frustrating phase with this great quiz where I can't get these answers no matter how hard I try. I only want pointers, not the answers and would be very happy to return the favour.

The quiz only came out the other day - it could be seen as a bit early to start asking for pointers, if other people are still doing it ? http://www.theanswerb...s/Question993684.html
Put it to one side for a couple of days...You'll be suprised what a difference a fresh start will make

I appreciate what you're saying, Boxtop and Mazie but I had the quiz sent to me weeks ago, not days. As many fellow quizzers will understand, the niggle niggle of unsolved clues doesn't make for easy living.Other people who're doing the quiz need only see pointers if they were looking for them.
Meanwhile my neighbour has helped me with 86!
Ofcourse the joy is in solving the clues oneself but sometimes we hit a brick wall and need a little help from others.
36 Think of what 0 represents in some sports and take it from there
54 Separate into officer medal and a word meaning the only one
I need help with 12 16 and 27 to finish the first page please
Question Author
I think that's 35, not 36 you've given me a clue for but I'll work on 54 more confidently now with your help. Thanks
For 12 you're looking for the nickname of a national paper. Take the clue very literally to get the answer. For 16 a well-known musical will start you off on the right track. For 27 think radio and there's an anagram involved.
How sa

I've now got 36, 54 and 86.Things are looking up - might make it after all. Hope you managed to finish that first page, kinglake9.

I got 64 today and felt really pleased about it. Yes, I probably did ask for help too early but at the time I just needed to get past the brick wall. You're right, Mazie. a fresh start does make a difference and I'll need to exercise patience till i get the rest.
I don't want any clues. I'm just interested to know which questions are giving the most problems :-
Can those people with fewer than 10 left to solve indicate the clues they are are having difficulties with?
My bete-noirs are 36, 42,43,64,97,99
Ignocnito
I am having trouble with 36 43 62 64 96 and 99 -similar to you.
But will carry on.
36, 42 and 43 left for me - seems to be a bit of a common theme....
Question Author
Looks like we can give eachother a bit of help later on, if we're still stuck. 43,56,98 and 99 are still niggling me. I try to ignore them but it's hard. I'll have to go back to solving crosswords where I'll have more success in the meantime.
Just done 97 so only five to go now
Now down to last three 36, 43, 99
but a bit unhappy about my answer for 42 as my Chambers gives it as one word not two. The answer fits well in all other respects. The setters are usually very accurate about such matters. Does anyone else have a similar problem?
Question Author
I see what you mean, having now looked up my Chambers, but I'm still quite confident about my answer.I expect you can have it as one word or two.
99 Dumb broad might help
42 obviously revolves round sorts, but I have multiple permutations, none of which quite do it for me....
Thank you for the help p-potter. The same questions seem to be troubling us all incognito but a clue available for 97 when you're ready.
Thanks Gandolf34 I was just about there but had misread the 'l' for an 'i' in Chambers so hadn't proved the connection to my satisfaction.
So now just the infuriating 36 & 43
Question Author
I've got 36, Incognito but will only help if asked. I'll go back to trying to solve the elusive 99 with your prompt.
It's OK thanks p-pottter, I've solved 36.
Just 43 now!
