What is sodium dioxide used for in the theatre, but known as by another name?:

Sodium Hydroxide (quicklime) was used in the theatre as a lighting source - hence "being in the limelight". Lumps of qhicklime would be heated until they glowed and then the light would be reflected onto the stage as spotlights
