if it took an average man 15 mins to walk 1 mile , then he stopped for a break for 30 seconds then walked half a mile back then stopped for a further 30 seconds and returned to the end point of his original journey , how long has it took him to walk the half mile back ?

This is the most fun I've had on AB for years.

bhg, I realised you realised I was joking :P

smartypants, please can you just go through your working/solution from the beginning. You've lost us all, with your dancing between different units if nothing else.
We all appear to have read it correctly. You appear to have not written it correctly.
yeah i know but in trying to explain it the op said "the original ending point ofthe whole journey in total" I was just making a point that even that doesnt make sense!

its one of those riddles where if u dont read the question correctly, then it will get you lost in a maze of maths. the statistics on the number of people who failed to find an answer is only 5 % of people who tried it found the correct solution .
Considering this 'question' now has replies stretching to three pages, I can only assume that a lot of ABers, like me, are snowed in today, with not a lot else to do!
I estimate that at least 90% of those who got it wrong did so because the question was badly-presented.

........... make that four pages!
I hope he was well wrapped up, it's very cold.

No, it's one of those riddles where you have to be specific when asking the question. You asked "How long to walk?" when you meant "How long to travel?"; one question includes breaks, the other doesn't.

the question wasnt wrote wrong on the site , i may o f got 1 or 2 things wrong but it wouldnt make any difference to the answer anyway, all i got wrong was the mph which should of been kmph, and i was only guessing the speed which i also got wrong but again the speed he walked isnt the issue , the question was ''how ong did it take him to set off again after his first 30 second break , to get to the original ending point .
What's the source then.
err no it wasnt, the question was "how long has it took him to walk the half mile back"
before this turns into a slanging match over the incomplete/ erroneous wording of the question,
smartypants,
can you please find the original question and write it out verbatim.
To sum up then, you asked the wrong question, got the units mixed up when calculating your answer and then accused everybody else of getting the answer wrong. OK.
which actually makes no grammatical sense either
