I have used a picture hook with the bottom eased out, providing it is not a heavy clock. On the one I have got now the fitting protrudes and I had to get OH to drill the wall and fit a rawl plug and screw protruding out enough to catch the hanging fitment. It will depend on how far away your fitment is when you place it against the wall. In my experience try picture hook first and if it does not work, i.e. does not sit proud to the wall , you can use the picture hook hole to drill a screw hole. Hope this make sense and helps.
