Sorry for repeating, but this is really groovy:

The soup is delicious, and you have a mind numbing science mystery half way through! What is going on? Hot water does not have the same effect. It is very bizarre. Try and let me know. 10 and some free soup (vacuum packed) for the winner.

It is impossible to "eat" soup, because it is a liquid. It is only possible to drink soup. Therefore the title of your question is inaccurate.
Question Author
what does 'eat' mean?
bernardo, if it's only possible to drink soup, I should be able to consume it through a straw. Have you tried that wi vegetable soup?
No I haven't. What has the type of soup got to do with it? Soup is liquid, therefore drink, therefore not food. There are, of course, some types of soup which have bits in, in which case one drinks the soup and eats the bits. But, as I said before, it is intrinsically and by definition impossible to "eat" something which is a liquid and a drink rather than a food and a solid. Those who incorrectly refer to the process of "eating" soup are, by definition, insane.

bernardo I use a spoon to eat ma soup and a spoon is defined as follows (from AOL Learning Oxford Dictionary)

"spoon

→ n.
1. an implement consisting of a small, shallow oval or round bowl on a long handle, used for eating, stirring, and serving food. "

Do you see the word "eating?" I don't see the word "drinking" though.......

Oh, I forgot to say the definition includes the word "food" too................
Consomme is all liquid therefore is a drink, but veg and ministrone types with pasta/meat have parts that have to be eaten, so----
It's to do with the make up of the packaging. Thermosets in the plastic relax and cause the pot to "wobble". Water will have the same effect, but not on the same pot. Once changed the molecules will not "reform" and create the same effect. If you heated a separate pot with water not soup in it you would see the same effect.
Why did my 'joke' about the squash in the butternut get removed from the previous answer?
it wasnt a very good joke admittedly but hardly fell in to any of the 'bannable' catergories.
Ive said some really offensive thing here and there and not had anything removed so why did a daft comment about the butternut squashing the container offend someone?
Dont really care but i was just wondering.
Question Author
probably a glitch ban.
What has that dictionary definition got to do with anything? Of course it is possible to eat something with a spoon, such as rice or carrots or ice-cream. But it is intrinsically and by definition impossible to eat a liquid. Soup is a liquid. Therefore it is impossible to eat soup, just as it is impossible to "eat" water.

Far more offensive than gary baldy's joke (whatever it was), and far more offensive than racism or homophobia or genocide or golf or murder or bigotry or narrow-mindedness, is the fact that people are allowed to continue to live when they pretend that soup is "eaten".

corbyloon - this morning I had some milk left in my bowl after I'd eaten all the cornflakes so I consumed the remaining milk using my spoon. Are you telling me I ate the milk?

also, as an aside I've just tried an experiment & hit my work colleague on the head with a spoon. Did I just eat his head? And is his head also food?

Bernardo, are you starting to worry about the fact that you might be coming across to other users of this site as a smidgeon pompous? A tad sanctimonious? A wee bit overbearing? More than a little pedantic? Often patronizingly smug? Self-important, conceited, egotistic, not too mention pretentious and supercilious?
If not, why not re-read your above comments.
Opps, just re-read my own post.
Thats a little on the harsh side, my apologies.

No - I am not worrying at all. I take your description as a great compliment. I have always found that being pompous, sanctimonious, overbearing, pedantic, smug, self-important, conceited, egotistic, pretentious and supercilious is the inevitable and unavoidable side-effect of being extremely clever and knowledgeable and always being right about everything.

Me too!

The soup must be pretty cold by now. Why not just consume it while it's still hot?
