Can heavy use of steroids cause Schizophrenic symptoms?

I think that the experts would say that 'the jury is still out' on this one.

Certain types of steroids fall into a category known as 'neuroactive steroids' (NASs). (These include dehydropiandrosterone and dehydropiandrosterone sulfate). Recent research has indicated that NASs may be linked to schizophrenia. e.g:
"Growing evidence implicates NASs in the pathology of schizophrenia. Recent studies reveal NAS plasma level and possibly brain level fluctuations in the illness. However, the precise NAS level abnormalities are not yet known and warrant further investigation. Further, NASs may improve some symptoms in schizophrenia but exacerbate other".

The answer to your question is that steroids can cause symptoms very like those of schizophrenia. The sooner someone gets treatment the better their chances of controlling the symptoms.
