Can somebody tell me why humans can totally ignore important things but will waste time over rubbish.

Someone a couple of days ago asked a question about the world running out of oil, now this is probably something which will impact all societies very soon in a very bad way - he got 7 replies, someone in B & S asks something like ''does anybody like strawberry ice cream'' and it will get 83 replies.

Is it just me or is the human race doomed just because the majority cant get their brains around anything important these days.

maybe people dont come here to answer important questions?
I should imagine more people can answer the second question than the first question. I don't think it's a matter of wasting time over rubbish. (Define rubbish!!)

What you may think of as rubbish may be important to others. In fact it is a bit insulting to people to say what they think or answer is rubbish.

A little tolerance goes a long way in this world. I am interested in what everyone has to say, not just the world changing things, but the little things in life.

Big things don't always change the world, but little things do more often. If Napoleon hadn't suffered from an intestinal disorder which flared up at Waterloo, we would probably have lost the battle. A small, but very signifcant factor in the battle, which changed the face of history.

I was even interested in your posting!!

it is the simple things in life that intrest the simple people. there are obviously lots of iddiots out there
mmmm Strawberry Ice Cream!!!
mmmm Strawberry Ice Cream!!!

Seriously, I enjoy the "more important" posts and discuss them with friends/ family who may have a knowlege or understanding of the issues raised. I may not feel qualified to answer the query, or offer a uninformed opinion. Some of the sillier queries are fun not just simple. We need a bit of lightness in our lives especially if the human race is doomed. Also as roaldo says a handful of good replies are often enough. I wouldn' t add to a thread that somone has already answered as well or better then I could.

I don't think every question deserves and answer, but that is only my opinion and if others enjoy long rambling threads thats fine. Some are fun some less so. But I think it is a little sad to brand someone and idiot because of their posts on answerbank!

Lighten up and expand your group of friends!!
If only we could confine all the BS to B&S.

The fact is that the welfare of humanity has always rested on the shoulders of a few giants of reason.

Will you be my friend . . . anyone . . . hello?

Time and reason. An ans to the first would be lengthly and unlikely to be new, and ans to the second, whilest of less impact, is simple - yes.
Have you considered that people do not necessarily read ALL new posts?

I have only just arrived at this site and will probably only ever view - at most - seven out of the twenty-six topics. I will then only select the post headings that may appear to be interesting or of interest to me.
It is true, that (most) people only read the topics that look interesting to them.
"Don't judge a book by its cover" (or in this case "a question by its title") is easier said than done.

I was really not making a comment on the number of people who ''chat'' about irrelavent things but how few will get involved in things which will impact everyone on the planet.
I won't comment on questions that i don't feel i know enough about. Such as running out of oil. But Strawberry ice cream....

it's a bit like people spending time on here when they should be working

Yes but those giants of reason would be screwed without the schmoes at the paper, calculator, pen, pencil and pretty much every other industry. The giants aren't tall cos they are giants, they're tall because there is a lot of people supporting them from lower in the pyramid.
Zevon,
Consequently, we all support each other for good reason; the mutual benefits derived. But the pyramid is inverted and rests on the shoulders of the few who contribute the most and it is the multitudes, as you say the, schmoes, who have always reaped the greatest rewards of their genius. The nest time you flip a switch and see the light illuminating the darkness say, thanks my genius friend . . . and schmoes too!
I prefer to see the wghole thing as that coke advert with everyone dancing and singing in a peace ring, pyramids imply stress and superiority, a peace ring implies everyone helping one another to have a good time and to do the best they can. Except lawyers.
And if soemone didn't think about strawberry ice cream then neopolitan ice cream would never be invented. And that is more important than a skip load of hot rock massages.
When it comes down to determining superiority why waste time counting when there is always room for improvement all around.
