What can I store a strong magnet in to protect things around it? Like tv's, monitors, stupid little paperclips, etc.

a lead box
Basically materials that are attracted to magnets block magnetic field, the thicker the material the better the blocking, so stick it in an iron box. A lead box would be a stupid idea unless your magnet was also radioactive.
hmm, you may be right. Seems lead is no better than air.
thinking about it, seems logical, since you need ferrous material for magnetism.

have a look down the bottom for ways which magnets are transported in planes.
Just to elaborate mu metal is a nickel allow with a very very high magnetic permeability and is used in shielding manetic fields.

It's about $20 per foot (15" width) and about $400 for a plate about a meter square

I don't know about buying in the UK

Could I fabricate somthing at home? Like a steel box, with a wood frame around the outside, then a larger steel box around that? That should absorbe a lot of the magnetic field, right? Maybe... Any ideas?
dont you mean very low jake??
