Function of an appendix?

Hi there was just wondering what the function of the appendix is or was? In addition if this has no present use to due to our bodies evoving and making this organ redundant is there anything else that we have, but has become obsolete? Nipples for men is not an answer.

Goosebumps are still useful today actually, they help raise our hairs and trap layers of air to help keep our bodies warm
