During the transformation of bacterial cells, plasmid DNA is taken up. I'm confused as to what happens to the original bacterial genome (present in the host cells). Is this degraded during the procedure to make the host cells competent or does the plasmid insert itself into the sequence?

I think it just merges with the host cells. Although taking the formula x=y234.788x7868.23 / xyz-34.566552+yzz This is highly unlikely.
