propane gas

can u use propane gas and butane gas with the same appliance ie a patio heater. dose it matter which type of gas cylinder i use as long as i have the right regulator

Shouldn't be a problem. Many barbeque manufacturers say either can be used on their equipment by using the appropriate regulator.
(In winter, you might have a problem with butane as it freezes easily. Propane is much better at working in below zero temperatures)
