i live in the midlands and at the moment at around 19.30pm at night there is a very bright star in the west fairly low down can someone tell me what it is please.

That would be the planet Venus.

Aha..... Todays "what is that bright light" question ;)

Yep it's Venus
for the bazillionth time it's Kin VENUS, it ain't a star!, give it a few weeks and it'll be seen in the morning just before sunrise!
the star you see is not venus..it is a star,called sirius
