Space shuttle Discovery

On nasa tv now for the next few hours you will see Discovery being transported on the road to Florida Space centre for next visit to spacestation in 2 to 3 weeks.

wendilla, you seem interested in all things NASA.

Something thats been bugging me for a while - the Space Shuttle programme is being ended fairly soon - But NASA will still have mission commitments after this with the ISS, orbiting satellites etc.
I can't find official comment anywhere about their launch and orbital vehicle strategy once shuttle fleet has been retired.
I did read somewhere that the US astronauts are going to have to hitch a ride with the russians. Can you point me to where I can get some proper information on this?

If you type into google (space shuttle programme ending soon) you might find what you are looking for there. I just started to find out all this about 18 months ago.We have seen the spacestation over here in the uk lots of times when clear skies And now it is bigger and brighter. I can give you the links where to find that if you have not already got them and you will know the exact time it is coming over.I don't know an awful lot technically just what I have learned on here. Hope this helps.

OK thanks for reply. I didn't realise that it took Discovery on the transporter nearly 11 hours to travel just less than 3 and a half miles to the pad.
