I have a friend who has been advised not to drink grapefruit juice as citric acid causes joint pain and possibly arthritis. Old wives' tale or what? Thanks.

It probably won\'t cause joint pain, but it may make existing symptoms worse in some cases. This is true of all citrus fruit juices, not just grapefruit.
The most frequent reason that people are told to avoid grapefruit juice specifically is that it reacts (sometimes fatally) with a whole host of prescribed drugs.
Yes you musn't eat grapefruit if you take, for example, Simvastatin to reduce your Cholesterol.
