Unfortunately, perpetual motion is impossible in this Universe (for us mere mortals, at any rate) - it's forbidden by Newton's Laws of Mechanics - Entropy will always increase, so things always run down eventually.

A freind of mine reckons he invented a perpetual motion machine in the toilets of a pub! After washing his hands he put the paper towel into the swing top bin and the lid continued to swing a bit. This set off the hand drier blower which was located just above it. The air from the drier continued to spin the lid of the swing top bin.... which in turn continued to activate the hand drier! endless!  :-)

Yes but a source of electricity fed the dryer. Now if the motion of the lid was driving a generator would t swing so effectively? Would it make enough power to drive the hot air dryer?

You see for perpetual motion to work there must be no additional input of external power.

But it was a nice try!!
